Problem

The slope located in the south sector of Hero School showed erosion, soil displacement, and difficulties managing rainwater. The slope required a structure capable of containing the terrain, reducing water pressure, and protecting nearby campus areas.

Solution

A retaining wall was built using bus, truck, pickup, and car tires placed in staggered courses and compacted with sand.

The structure incorporated gravel, nylon rope, rear anchors, filter fabric, and drainage pipes to allow controlled water outflow and reduce pressure accumulated behind the wall.

Impact

The project stabilized the south slope and allowed recovery of a vulnerable area of the campus.

The reuse of 1,080 tires prevented these wastes from being burned or abandoned, turning them into functional infrastructure. The wall also became an educational reference on waste management, drainage, and sustainable construction.
