Problem

Hero School needed a practical tool to teach natural construction techniques and demonstrate how local and reused materials could be transformed into a functional structure.

The challenge was to develop a stable, thermally efficient oven that was simple enough for its construction process to be replicated within educational activities.

Solution

An adobe or cob oven was built on a base of two courses of tires. To generate thermal insulation, earth, angular sand, sawdust, glass bottles, pumice stone, and aluminum foil were used.

The interior was formed with red bricks and river sand, creating a chamber capable of retaining and distributing heat. The combination of natural and reused materials allowed experimentation with different techniques until a stable and replicable design was achieved.

Impact

It was the first adobe oven of this type built by Long Way Home within the educational context of Hero School.

The project allowed refining a technique that was later taught to seventh-grade students, turning the construction into a practical learning experience about natural materials, thermal efficiency, and sustainability.
