Problem

The terrain located in the north sector of Hero School had a steep slope and erosion problems that compromised the stability of the area. During the rainy season, soil displacement and water accumulation increased the risk of soil loss and limited the safe use of the space.

Solution

A retaining wall was built using reused tires, compacted with soil and placed in stepped courses. The structure was complemented with layers of gravel and sand to facilitate drainage, as well as ties and reinforcement elements to maintain the wall's stability.

The system allowed adaptation to the natural topography of the terrain and made use of waste that would otherwise have ended up in landfills or open spaces.

Impact

The project stabilized the north terrain of Hero School, reduced erosion, and turned hundreds of discarded tires into a useful and durable structure.

It also served as a practical example of sustainable construction, demonstrating that reused materials can be used to solve real infrastructure needs.
